Shakira Teases New Song With cryptic Post Following Split With Gerard Pique

Shakira seems to be ready to take another dig at her ex Gerard Pique in her new song Monotonía which is scheduled to release on October 19.

Shakira recently teased her new song Monotonía with a very cryptic video. The singer-songwriter took to her social media and shared several clips before unveiling a photo of the song’s cover art. Shakira shared three quick videos, all in Spanish. The three clips translated to, ‘It wasn’t your fault,’ ‘mine either,’ and ‘it was the monotony’s fault.’

The next video showed someone crushing a realistic-looking human heart. Alongside the video, she penned the caption in Spanish that translated to, ‘I never said anything, but it hurt. I knew that this would happen.’ Her upcoming song seems to be a dig at her ex-boyfriend Gerard Pique. The couple announced their split in July after 12 years of relationship and cheating allegations soon began to swirl in the Spanish tabloids. Shakira and Gerard also share two kids, Milan and Sasha.

Shakira then shared the cover art for her single which is set for release on October 19. The video showed a black heart that a black and white sword stabbed through the top of. A banner which read ‘Monotonía’ unfurled across the front of the heart. The latest social media post came after it emerged that Shakira seems to be settling scores with her ex via her music after the Spanish footballer was allegedly unfaithful.

She first appeared to include a jab at Piqué in her single Te Felicito (I Congratulate You). Shakira is yet to address the cheating allegations and rumours officially. In an interview with Elle Magazine, the hitmaker was asked about the line and its apparent connection to her marital issues. “Is that the feeling that you had that you kind of had to give a part of yourself during that relationship, which perhaps was hard to get back?” she was asked by Lulu Garcia-Navarro.

Shakira replies, “I can only say that either consciously or subconsciously, everything I feel and go through is reflected in the lyrics I write, in the videos I make. When the glove fits, it fits. Like I said before, my music is that channel.” Shakira’s song and the accompanying video featured the Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro, who is currently dating Rosalía.
