Producer Jerry Bruckheimer Teases Margot Robbie’s ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently revealed that Margot Robbie's starring film Pirates Of The Caribbean is still alive.

After sharing his wish for Johnny Depp back to the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, Producer Jerry Bruckheimer teases Margot Robbie led the movie. However, while promoting her upcoming movie Babylon, the actress previously revealed that her Pirates of the Caribbean project was no longer happening.

During a previous interview with Vanity Fair in November, Robbie insisted they were developing a ‘female-led’ Pirates of the Caribbean story, ‘which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it,’ referring to Disney, the studio that launched the franchise with 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

However, Bruckheimer insisted in a wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the project is still very much ‘alive.’ Bruckheimer said they were developing two different Pirates of the Caribbean movies, ‘the one with Margot Robbie and one with a younger cast.’ ‘The Margot Robbie one needs a little more work. The younger cast one is close. Hopefully, we’ll get both of them,’ Bruckheimer said.

When Bruckheimer was asked about Robbie’s recent comments that the project isn’t happening, the producer said, ‘It’s alive for me. It’s alive for Disney.’ ‘I’m sure she was disappointed it didn’t go first or maybe not because she’s very busy, so it might be a blessing to push this a bit,’ Bruckheimer said. The producer said, ‘We believe we’ll get it made. It’s a very strong story.’

For the unversed, the project was first announced back in late June 2020, when it was revealed that Robbie was teaming up with her Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson on this female-led, Pirates of the Caribbean project. While the other details about the upcoming project have been kept under wraps, it was reported that it won’t be a spin-off of the original movie franchise starring Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, but instead, ‘a wholly original story with new characters under the moniker.’
