The kingdom is one of the most prominent Netflix Korean drama in recent times, the historical zombie drama is loved for its beautiful landscapes and impeccable star cast. Ever since the second season of the Netflix series ended with a huge cliff-hanger with Jun Ji-hyun, fans have been eagerly waiting for the update on Kingdom season 3.
However we won’t be getting Kingdom season 3 anytime soon but Netflix has now confirmed that’ll be releasing special episode starring Jun Ji-hyun. Reportedly, the sidequel episodes will be centred on Jun Ji-hyun’s character, Ashin, and how she became a warrior.
Park Byung-eun, who made a lasting impression in Kingdom season two as the head of the Royal Commandery Min Chi-rok, is also confirmed to star.
Reportedly, a few months back, a source close to the production revealed that “It was difficult for the lead actors of the first two seasons to immediately start filming for the third season due to scheduling conflicts, so the continuation of their story after season two will probably come in two or three years. We will first be bringing the prequel story, where Jun Ji Hyun will be joined by a mostly-new cast of characters.”
However, soon after reports started making rounds on the internet, a Netflix spokesperson came in forward and denied any preparation for season 3, they said, “Nothing has been decided yet on future plans for ‘Kingdom’ There’s nothing we can confirm as of now, including the lead actors, screenwriter, or director. It hasn’t even been decided whether there will be a prequel or not.”
In a teaser released by Netflix, Kingdom: Ashin of the North will be streaming from on November 1, 2021.
