Disney Delays ‘Snow White’ Live Action Release By Almost A Year

Disney's Bob Iger and other prominent Hollywood CEOs have been in discussions with SAG-AFTRA regarding the looming deadline to decide which films to postpone next year due to an ongoing actors' strike.

Disney’s highly anticipated live-action adaptation of ‘Snow White’ has faced a significant release delay. The film, with Rachel Zegler portraying the titular character, was originally scheduled for release on March 22, 2024. However, it has now been postponed, and audiences will have to wait until March 21, 2025, to see the classic fairy tale come to life in a new way.

According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, Disney’s Bob Iger and other prominent Hollywood CEOs have been in discussions with SAG-AFTRA regarding the looming deadline to decide which films to postpone next year due to an ongoing actors’ strike.

Bob Iger expressed his concerns earlier this year, particularly regarding the actors and writers unions, suggesting that their expectations were not “realistic.” During an appearance on CNBC’s ‘Squawk Box,’ he explained, “This is the worst time in the world to add to that disruption… It will have a very, very damaging effect on the whole business, and unfortunately, there’s huge collateral damage in the industry to people who are supportive services. It will affect the economy of different regions, even, because of the sheer size of the business. It’s a shame, it is really a shame.”

The delay of ‘Snow White’ comes as part of the broader landscape of industry challenges and ongoing labour negotiations, which have been a point of contention between studios and unions in the entertainment sector.
