In 1991, upon Srikanth’s birth, relatives advised his parents to abandon him due to his visual impairment. Hailing from an agricultural family in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, he became the first international blind student to graduate from MIT in the US.
Following his matriculation, Srikanth aspired to study science in 12th grade but faced initial resistance. After filing a case, he was eventually permitted to pursue science, achieving top marks with 98 percent in his XII board exams. Despite his academic excellence, he encountered further obstacles when denied admission to coaching institutes for the Indian Institute of Technology due to his visual impairment.
