In an exclusive interview with Lenren TV, Hema Malini shared the untold story of her entry into politics and the person who played a pivotal role in shaping her political journey – Vinod Khanna. During the interview, she disclosed, “At that time, Vinod Khanna was contesting elections from Gurdaspur, Punjab, and he approached me to campaign for him. Initially, I was uncertain about stepping into the political arena.”
It was Hema’s mother who encouraged her to take up the campaign for Vinod Khanna. “My mother was a staunch admirer of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She insisted that I lend my support to Vinod Khanna ji’s campaign. To assist me in this endeavor, my mother wrote all the speeches in Hindi, as she had a strong command over the language,” Hema revealed.
As she embarked on her campaign journey, Hema’s popularity soared, with invitations pouring in from various constituencies. People would eagerly chant, “Come here, come there,” and her political journey began to unfold. Eventually, her exceptional dedication and commitment led to her nomination for the esteemed position of Rajya Sabha.
Formally joining the BJP in 2004, Hema Malini’s political career reached new heights in March 2011 when she was appointed as a general secretary. Her passion for public service and connection with the masses propelled her to contest the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Mathura constituency. In an impressive display of her political prowess, Hema Malini secured a resounding victory by defeating the incumbent, Jayant Chaudhary (RLD), by an astounding margin of 330,743 votes.
