Aamir Khan’s Daughter Ira Reveals That It Was Her Parents’ Divorce That Triggered Depression

Ira Is The Daughter Of Reena Dutta, Who Is Aamir's First Wife, They Separated In 2002

Aamir Khan’s daughter, Ira, has been open about her battle with depression and how she managed it. However, she has now revealed to ETimes that it was her parents’ divorce that triggered it.

Speaking on the same issue, Ira said, “My therapist pointed out that one of the triggering factors was my parents’ divorce, which they handled as well as they could at that time. It was amicable. I am not placing blame on them, but what they didn’t realize is that due to their approach that divorce was not a major issue, it created a perception in my mind about the situation. We form perceptions that we don’t necessarily communicate to others. So, I hold myself responsible for my depression. For 20 years, I believed that people would love me only if I appeared sad. But now, how do I revert? I want to be happy! Hence, I must systematically undo everything I have done,” says Ira.

Ira is the daughter of Reena Dutta, who is Aamir’s first wife. They separated in 2002. In 2005, Aamir married Kiran Rao, and they have a son named Azad.

In 2010, Ira shared a video along with a lengthy caption discussing mental illness. “A lot has been happening, a lot of people have a lot to say. Things are really confusing and stressful and simple and okay but not okay and… life all together. There’s no way to say it all at once. But I’d like to believe I’ve figured out some things, or at least how to make it slightly more comprehensible. About mental health and mental ill-health. So, join me on this journey… in my awkward, quirky, sometimes-baby-voice-like, as-honest-as-I-can-be… way. Let’s initiate a conversation. Happy World Mental Health Day,” the caption read. She has also launched the Agastu Foundation and aims to dedicate her life to it.
