Rajkumar Hirani Reveals Why He Had His Eye Mask & Earplugs On While Shooting With SRK For ”Dunki”

Couldn't team up for Munna Bhai M.B.B.S but Mr. Hirani's majestic manifestation of collaborating with King Khan came true with Dunki!

‘Rajkumar Hirani’ is the undisputed king when it comes to the art of filmmaking. His first ever collaboration with ‘Shah Rukh Khan’, ‘Dunki’ has hit the silver screens in style this christmas weekend. The highly anticipated movie is also King Khan’s 3rd mega venture of 2023 following his all time blockbusters ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’ respectively. Film fanatics and audiences have waited decades to see a Raju Hirani and SRK film on the celluloid until Dunki happened this winter season.

Surprisingly, Shah was also Hirani’s 1st Choice For ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S’, but ‘Sanju Baba’ also rocked the performance very well with circuit ‘Arshad Warsi’. In a recent interview dynamic director Raju ji reveals how he was impressed with Srk’s tremendous talent after watching the serial ‘Circus’ and the latter had to wait for almost 20 years in turn working with the ‘Baazigar’ star.

Raju Hirani expressed “I recall watching this series called Circus and I vividly remember the scene including the camera angle where one actor was performing and delivering a monologue. That time I didn’t know who he was but I loved his performance. I told myself once I passed out from school, I would approach him and make a film. It took me two years to graduate from the film institute and by that time, Shah Rukh Khan had become a huge star (laughs). So, I had to wait for 20 years to collaborate with him on a film”.

Talking about Shahrukh’s distinctiveness as an actor, the ‘3 Idiots’ director stated “I was enamoured by his charm. I would put on an eye mask and earplugs when he was giving a shot. Once he finished, my assistant would tell me ‘Sir shot khatam ho gaya hai,’ and then I would open my eyes (laughs). Jokes apart, he is an amazing actor and an even better person.”

While quoting about Dunki’s Box Office collections, the film has brutally clashed with ‘Prabhas’ starrer ‘Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’. Both magnum opus movies were released adjacently on ’21st December’ & ’22nd December’, minting a massive amount of ‘Rs. 49 Crores’ & ‘Rs. 95 Crores’ respectively as per Sacnilk.com.
