Exclusive: Govinda Expresses About “Dulhe Raja” & Dynamic Directors’ Contribution In His Starry Cinematic CareerĀ 

Hats off to Govinda's humility, nevertheless, since this actor has given his directors credit for their successful films. He also shared his experience of working in the film "Dulhe Raja".

Today, on December 21, Govinda, the one and only Bollywood actor renowned for his polished dancing and subtle comedy, celebrates his 60th birthday. His popular films include “Joru Ka Ghulam,” “Dulhe Raja,” “Ilzaam,” “Coolie No. 1,” “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan,” “Hasseena Maan Jaayegi,” and many more. He made his Bollywood debut in the movie “Tan Badan,” and to date, he has contributed to around 165 movies. Bravo for his humility, nevertheless, since this actor has given his directors credit for their successful films. In an old interview with Lehren Retro Govinda discussed the role, directors played in shaping his career and about his film “Dulhe Rajaā€ .

Harmesh Malhotra directed movie, ā€œDulhe Rajaā€ was released in the year 1998. On the set of this film Govinda talked about the significance of the director. He stated that actors always worked for people’s affection while taking their interests into consideration. And therefore while choosing a project, the filmmaker’s backing is essential for a hero or character actor. “Actor cannot do anything at all if the director does not want him to do so. And in the films I have worked, directors does everything, itā€™s all their credit. And I am unable to overrule the director if he forbids me. Everything about meā€”including my ability to be held, permitted, given, and exemptedā€”is up to the director”, he said.

Harmesh Malhotra & Govinda collaborated in “Dulhe Raja” for the second time, earlier they worked for the film “Kismat”. When asked about Harmesh Malhotra’s leadership process, he said, “It was pleasure working with him, for so many reasons. Firstly he is senior and in spite of being so senior, he gives good importance to everybody, lots of respect, and lots of love. He always welcomes the fresh ideas, new ideas.ā€

In the movie Dulhe Raja, Govinda played the character of Raja Dhabewala who had a unique fashion sense. We have seen Govinda wore multiple glares to impress girls in movie Dulhe Raja. Govinda has always been a trendsetter with his unique look to each of his films. ‘Kya Lagati Hai Haye Rabba’, this song from the movie, reminds Govinda of his college days. He said that they used to sing such songs sitting in the college canteen. Composer Anand- Milind presented this song in 3 different ways and people find it catchy.

“Dulhe Raja” did very well at the box office. The duo of Govinda and Raveena Tandon created a buzz when they worked together and the same happened with Dulhe Raja.
