Ameesha Patel turns 49 today! In an exclusive flashback podcast with Lehren, The B’day girl once got candid about her mega hit films Gadar & Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai & also revealed her dream roles which she would have loved to portray on-screen.
On being asked about her role in Gadar, Ameesha explained that she plays a Pakistani Muslim Girl who falls for an Indian Guy (Sunny Deol) during the partition riots, but both the lovers get separated due to the ongoing communal chaos in the region. She added about the character being challenging as the nomenclature of the role ranged from a school going girl to a mother, that too in just her 2nd movie. The actress elaborated upon working very hard with director Anil Sharma for the perfection of her costumes, look, make-up & body language as Gadar was a Period Drama film.
The on-screen Sakeena stated about reading books on Lahore & interacting with girls from Islamic faiths to in turn get familiar with Muslim traditions & practices. She also appreciated Sunny Deol as a co-star for being protective on sets while shooting the high-octane action scenes.
While opening up about her debut film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Ameesha Patel expressed receiving immense love & attention from the people as according to her the audiences were starstruck post seeing her fresh on-screen pairing with Hrithik Roshan. She revealed that even stepping out of her home was extremely hard for the actress as fans would gather in huge numbers for autographs which in turn left her surprised and stunned.
The Gujarati beauty concluded by stating that she would have loved to play the female lead roles in her all time favourite films like Umrao Jaan, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Chandni & Dilwale.
