Earlier this year, Indian cinema introduced audiences to an incredible superhero film centered around Lord Hanuman, directed by Prashanth Varma. The film titled HanuMan was released on January 12, 2024 and featured the rising star Teja Sajja in the lead role. It left viewers buzzing with excitement for the sequel, Jai Hanuman, which promises to showcase the legendary figure of Lord Hanuman himself.
As the excitement for Jai Hanuman grew, many fans speculated about who would take on the iconic role of Lord Hanuman or who will star in the lead role. Initially, there were rumours that Rana Daggubati would be the one to embody this character and Megastar Chiranjeevi or Mahesh Babu are in talks for the lead role. However, recent reports have shifted the focus. According to a Telugu media outlet called Aakashavaani, Kannada superstar Rishab Shetty, known for his groundbreaking performance in Kantara, is now the likely choice to play the lead role in Jai Hanuman.
The post on X (formerly Twitter) read, “Rishab Shetty is most likely to do the lead role in Prasanth Varma’s most-awaited sequel, Jai Hanuman. Mythri Movie Makers are expected to produce the film.” Although there hasn’t been any official confirmation yet, many believe Rishab would be an excellent fit for the character.
Rishab Shetty has made a significant mark in Indian cinema, recently winning a National Award for his outstanding role in Kantara. His performance in that film captivated audiences and he is currently working on the prequel titled Kantara: Chapter 1. This rise in his career makes him a compelling choice for the role of Lord Hanuman in Jai Hanuman.
In addition to the potential casting of Rishab Shetty, there are reports that director Prashanth Varma may also bring Bollywood actors into the mix for Jai Hanuman. Teja Sajja is expected to reprise his role from the first film, but he will not be the lead. While, official confirmation regarding lead actor is yet to be made.
Originally, the sequel was scheduled for release in 2025, but that date has now been pushed to 2026. The delay is primarily due to the fact that filming has yet to begin, which means fans will have to wait a bit longer to see their favorite characters return on the big screen.
