Interesting Fact: RRR Song Naatu Naatu Was Shot Outside Ukraine President House

RRR has created history today by becoming the first Indian film to win a Golden Globe Award. The film may have lost out in the Best Non-English Film category but applause to win in the Best Original Song category. The dance number Naatu Naatu beats the pro singers and dancers like Rihanna and Lady Gaga to bring the prize to India. 

An interesting fact has turned up about Naatu Naatu that it was shot in Ukraine at a site that is now as good as a graveyard.

As we know that RRR is a Telugu period drama that talks about the time right before the partition; directed by SS Rajamouli. The main leads Ram Charan and Jr NTR played the real-life versions of Indian freedom fighters from the 1920s.The song Naatu Naatu comes in the movie when an officer challenges NTR to beat him in a dance-off and became an overnight trend on all social media platforms. The energetic dance is being enjoyed in both India and overseas the previous year.

Naatu Naatu was filmed in 2021 in the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv. The large building that serves as The setting of the song is the Mariinskyi Palace, the official residence of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The director Rajamouli confirmed this 2021 during an interview-

“We shot the Naatu Naatu song in Ukraine. It is a real location. It is the Ukrainian President’s palace. There is a parliament right beside the palace. Luckily, they permitted us to shoot because the Ukrainian president was a television actor. The funny thing is that he acted as the President in a TV series before becoming the President.”

Later in the year when war broke out between Russia and Ukraine, and the area is closed to tourists now. Ram Charan took the initiative to send supplies and financial aid to the local people. Film crew members were deeply affected by the violence there.

Naatu Naatu was composed by MM Keeravani with the original Telugu lyrics by Chandrabose. The track was sung by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava for the original. Telugu version with other singers like KD Harisankar, Yazin Nizar, and Vishal Mishra lends his voices for the dubbed versions the song was choreographed by Prem Rakshith.

The choreographer of the Golden Globe song Prem Rakshit revealed in an interview that he worked on 97 dance moves for 30 days for the song and how the team managed to do with Ultra-Zoom the right synchronization between the actors. Originally it was planned to shoot the song in front of the backdrop of 100 dancers, they later decided to do this routine with the dancers along with the leads.
