After The Rumour Marriage News Was Out The LGBTQ+ Community Celebrated, But Other Section Was Unhappy

Pakistani Singer Ali Sethi, who rose to fame with his chartbuster “Pasoori,” has been rumored to have tied the knot with his longtime friend Salman Toor in an intimate wedding held in New York.

Salman Toor, a painter, had openly discussed his sexual identity in a 2022 interview with The New Yorker. He also shared his deep emotional connection with Sethi, stating, “I knew I had found the person I wanted to be with for good.”

As of now, Ali Sethi has not provided any comments about the rumored wedding or his relationship with Toor. The news of their supposed union triggered a variety of reactions on Sethi’s Twitter trend, ranging from congratulatory messages to instances of hateful opinions. Certain segments of Pakistani social media flooded the platform with homophobic remarks in response to the alleged wedding.

While the LGBTQ+ community celebrated the wedding news, some critics deemed it an affront to Islam, leading to Ali Sethi receiving death threats. However, Sethi has taken to his Instagram account to address the speculations. In a note, he clarified, “I am not married, I don’t know who started the rumor.” He playfully added, “But maybe they should help market my new release.” He linked his latest song ‘Paniya’ along with the note.

Ali Sethi stands as one of the few Pakistani artists who have openly come out as gay. In a prior interview, he highlighted the prevalence of homophobia in Pakistan and its worsening condition.

It’s important to note that homosexuality is considered a criminal offense in Pakistan, with potential punishment of up to 10 years in jail.

On the other hand, Salman Toor, a Pakistan-born painter, resides and works in New York, adding another layer of complexity to this intriguing story.
