Suriya’s highly anticipated film Kanguva, directed by Siva hit theaters yesterday, which tells the story of a brave tribal warrior who will go to any lengths to protect his people. While the film generated immense buzz before its release, it has received a mixed response from audiences and now has the Kanguva IMDb rating is out it has fallen short of expectations, surprising many.

Despite earning immense praise for Suriya’s breathtaking performance and the film’s intriguing concept, Kanguva faced disappointment for its pacing, plot execution and screenplay. The film currently holds a 5.5/10 rating on IMDb, surprisingly lower than Suriya’s previous release, Etharkkum Thunindhavan, which received a 6.4/10.

Interestingly, the Kanguva IMDb rating varies across regions. Malaysia gave it a higher score of 6.8/10, followed by India and the UK with 5.7/10 each. However, it fared poorly in the United States where it was rated 4.4/10. The global average stands at 5.5/10, reflecting a lukewarm reception.

Mixed Reactions but Solid Box Office Start

Despite the mixed reviews, Kanguva had reportedly a strong opening, earning ₹22 crore in India on its first day with impressive ₹40 crore worldwide surpassing the net profit of Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Amaran’. Fans have lauded Suriya’s performance with some calling it a “one-man show”, praising him for carrying the film on his shoulders and saying “Suriya holds it together as a lone warrior”.
