Did Chiranjeevi Just Make A S*xist Remark? Netizens Criticize Megastar’s Comment On Ram Charan To “Have A Son So Our Legacy…”

Chiranjeevi faces backlash for comments about wanting a grandson. Did he mean it in jest, or is there more to it? Read on to know why fans are upset with the Telugu superstar.

Megastar Chiranjeevi faces backlash for his comments about wanting a grandson to continue his family’s legacy. During the pre-release event of Brahma Anandam, where he was the chief guest, the actor humorously remarked that he feels like a “ladies’ hostel warden” at home, as he is surrounded by women. He then went on to say that he hopes his son, Ram Charan, has a boy next time.

“When I’m at home, it doesn’t feel like I’m surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I’m a ladies’ hostel warden, surrounded by ladies all around. I keep wishing and telling (Ram) Charan, at least this time, have a boy so that our legacy continues, but his daughter is the apple of his eye… I’m scared that he might have a girl again.”

While Chiranjeevi laughed while saying this, his remarks did not sit well with many people. Social media users quickly pointed out that such statements reinforce outdated gender biases and the idea that only a male child can continue a family’s legacy.

Internet Reacts Strongly to Chiranjeevi ’s Remarks

Soon after the event, the actor’s comments started circulating online, sparking debate. Many fans and netizens expressed disappointment, saying that a child’s gender should not define their ability to carry forward a family name.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Chiranjeevi, with his influence, could be advocating for equality instead of making comments that reinforce regressive thoughts.” Another user added, “His granddaughter could take his legacy forward too. Just look at how women in business and entertainment have done the same.”

While some fans defended him, calling the remarks a lighthearted joke, others argued that such comments, even in jest, send the wrong message. “Public figures must be careful about what they say. These statements normalize outdated thinking,” read another tweet.

Will Chiranjeevi Respond?

Chiranjeevi has not yet responded to the backlash. Whether he will clarify or stand by his words remains to be seen. Meanwhile, he is preparing for his upcoming film Vishwambhara, which has been postponed from its original Sankranti release.
