Ponniyin Selvan: South filmmaker Mani Ratnam has been gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Ponniyin Selvan-1. However, as per the latest reports, the filmmaker is currently hospitalized in a hospital in Chennai after he tested positive for Covid-19. Read to know more-
Mani Ratnam Hospitalized
South Filmmaker Mani Ratnam, who is currently gearing up for the release of his much-awaited film Ponniyin Selvan-1, was recently rushed to a private hospital on Tuesday, soon after he experienced some Covid-related symptoms over the last few days. The reports have suggested that the filmmaker has tested positive for the novel coronavirus and is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Confirming the news, trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai took to Twitter to share the news. He wrote, “#ManiRatnam tested positive for #COVID19 , admitted to Apollo Hospital, Chennai.” According to the reports, Mani Ratnam has been hospitalized to isolate himself as his parents are aged above 90.
Mani Ratnam And Vikram Chiyaan Gets Courts Notice
Meanwhile, earlier after the release of the teaser of the film, the filmmaker Mani Ratnam and actor Chiyaan Vikram got a court notice. As per the reports, a lawyer sent them a notice stating that the history of Cholas was misinterpreted in the film. The notice was sent by lawyer Selvam from Korukkupetta of Chennai stating that that the historical details were concealed in Ponniyin Selvan. The Cholas don’t have ‘Naamam’ but in the teaser, actor Vikram was seen with one. However, the makers are yet to respond to the controversy.
On the other hand, actor Vikram Chiyaan who will be seen essaying the role of Aditya Karikalan in the film skipped the teaser launch due to his health issues. Since the actor was taken to hospital just a few hours before the trailer launch as he complained of having discomfort due to a high fever. Though he soon appeared at the music launch event of his film ‘Cobra’ and soon updated his fans that he was doing just fine.

Based on a novel by Kalki Krishnamoorthy, the film revolves around the power struggle of the Chola empire during the 10th century and will hit the screens in two installments. Jointly Produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, directed by Mani Ratnam, the music of Ponniyin Selvan is composed by AR Rahman. PS-1 is slated for a worldwide release on September 30, 2022, in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
