In the 80s, actress Vijayata Pandit came out as a much talked about actress for various reasons. From sharing a controversial love angle with Kumar Gaurav, to being scrapped by Bollywood to be a mainstream singer, Vijayta Pandit had a good career in her early-career stages.
In a recent interview with Lehren Retro, Vijayta Pandit revealed how every song sung by her was directly replaced by other female singers, sidelining her in the film career overall. Unfortunately, a similar incident happened where she recorded a song for Jatin-Lalit’s films, only to later find out that someone else had sung it. Jatin-Lalit’s debut film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’s song “Chahe Tum Kuch Na Kaho, Maine Sun Liya” was practiced and recorded by her alongside Udit Narayan. However, later on, singer- Sadhana Sargam dubbed over her voice, and she was replaced.
Recalling another incident, Vijayta tells that similarly she had once recorded a song for her husband Aadesh Shrivastava’s first film Kanyadaan. The song ‘O Sajna Dilbar’ was earlier voiced by the Love Story actress but was again dubbed by Lata Mangeshkar.
However, when the song was being recorded at the studio, Aadesh made Lata ji sing the scratch version, hearing Lata Mangeshkar was shocked. She immediately asked late Aadesh Shrivastava about why he chose to replace Vijayta Pandit’s voice when there is so much melody in it. The magnific voice by Vijayta was immediately praised by Lata ji, after which she apologizrd to her that she had to dub her song despite the melodic tunes being so soothing.
