‘No Trailer Or Teaser’, Why Is Junaid Khan’s Debut Film “Maharaj” Releasing Without Publicity?

Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan's debut film, 'Maharaj' will be releasing on Netflix without any trailer release or any promotions.

In a unique move in film history, the debut of a star-son is set to launch without any trailer, teaser, or promo. We’re talking about Junaid Khan, son of Bollywood icon Aamir Khan. Scheduled for release this Friday, June 14, on Netflix, ‘Maharaj’ marks Junaid’s entry into the industry amid much anticipation and curiosity.

What’s particularly surprising about the film is its complete lack of buzz despite its impending release on Friday, June 14. When we say “buzz,” we’re talking about the absence of a trailer, promo, or even a teaser.

This is significant because Yash Raj Films (YRF), known for treating every film release as a major event, usually accompanies their projects with extensive promotions. Given that it’s the launch of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s son, one would expect interviews, trailers, and promotional activities to be part of the package.

According to a report from Peeping Moon, controversy has arisen regarding the portrayal of a Hindu religious leader in the film. Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s youth wing, represented by the Bajrang Dal, has objected, expressing concerns that it could depict the leader negatively and offend sentiments.

As per the report, the film’s producers have not yet responded to the letter requesting an advance screening. However, they are exercising caution to avoid any actions that could potentially harm the film.

As per insider sources mentioned in the report, YRF and Netflix India have opted for minimal promotion to prevent exacerbating the controversy surrounding the film.
