Synonymous with versatility and creativity in the Indian film industry, filmmaker Nikkhil Advani is known for his ability to weave compelling narratives. Nikkhil has carved a niche for himself as a director, producer, and screenwriter. But, with a career spanning over two decades, Nikkhil Advani has delivered a mix of critically acclaimed and commercially successful films. His journey in Bollywood has been marked by collaborations with some of the biggest names in the industry, one of the same is film producer Karan Johar. Karan and Nikkhil Advani have been known for their emotional clash since long time, after the release of Kal Ho Naa Ho in 2003. While it all came out as a result of not having Karan Johar’s name replaced with Nikkhil’s under the director for the film, it thereafter led to Advani’s exit from Dharma Productions.
Nikkhil Advani Expresses REGRET On Leaving Dharma Productions
In an exclusive interview with Lehren Retro, producer Nikkhil Advani accepted that making an exit from Dharma was one of his biggest mistakes. He claimed, “Mera sabse bada regret hai, that I left Dharma Productions”. Adding further, Nikkhil stated that he was regretful, specially because he left Dharma Productions at a time when Yash Johar, Karan’s father and the owner of Dharma – was massively ill. Advani described their feud as an emotional outburst, and an immature exchange of opinions, which led to them part their ways in the industry. Even though both of them have a huge name at present, but leaving Karan Johar’s production house was still one of the major steps he was guilty of.
Recalling his time spent working with Dharma, Nikkhil said that , “I don’t equate my time with Dharma as three films. I equate it as I was there at the time when foundations of Dharma were being set. Talking further on Karan Johar, Nikkhil said Karan really likes to keep people very close to him. Also, Nikkhil revealed that Karan Johar is a person who loves close shots while picturising scenes, associating scenes of Ranbir Kapoor in ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil”
