Matt Damon Set to Return in Highly Anticipated ‘Rounders’ Sequel

Poker Fans Rejoice as Iconic Film Gears Up for a Revival After 25 Years.

Matt Damon is confirmed to reprise his role in a sequel to the cult classic film Rounders. The 1998 original, which has since garnered a dedicated following, is making a comeback after 25 years. The news was revealed in a recent interview, sparking widespread excitement and speculation about the film’s direction. On Wednesday, he appeared in Roku Channel’s The Rich Eisen Show.

When the talk show asked Matt Damon about movies he would like to get sequels, the Good Will Hunting star revealed that he is working on The Accountant 2,starring Ben Affleck, with his and Affleck’s production house, Artists Equity. Damon also revealed that he is interested in bringing a sequel to his 1998 film directed by John Dahl.

Rounders underperformed at the box office but created a huge fan base among the poker lovers. It starred Matt Damon in leading role and its cast lists includes Gretchen Mol, John Turturro, Edward Norton and John Malkovich. Matt Damon, who played the role of Mike McDermott, a law student with a knack for high-stakes poker, told the talk show host that when he met and talked to Norton a few weeks back and all they wanted was a Rounders sequel.

Damon hinted that the sequel will delve deeper into the high-stakes world of poker, capturing the essence of the original while introducing new dynamics. He also added that he and his team at Artists Equity are trying to figure out a way for the title rights and to make a deal with the original film’s production company, Miramax Films. The Air actor said that they are trying to figure everything out because “I think we’d all like to do that.”

The 1998 film showcased the underground poker scene in New York City. The sequel is expected to expand on this foundation, bringing in fresh elements and characters to captivate both old fans and new audiences.

Rounders has had a significant cultural impact since its release, influencing a generation of poker players and enthusiasts. The film is often credited with popularizing Texas Hold’em poker and inspiring many to take up the game professionally.
