Hollywood actor, Kevin Costner addressed swirling rumours about his involvement and eventual departure from the acclaimed series Yellowstone. The 69-year-old actor, known for his iconic roles in both film and television, emphasized his affection for the show and dismissed any negative speculation regarding his exit.
“I loved working on ‘Yellowstone’,” Costner stated, firmly putting to rest any doubts about his commitment to the series. “I liked the people on the show. I liked what it was about. I love that world,” he added in his recent interview with Peoplemagazine. Costner’s remarks come amid a storm of speculation and media reports suggesting turmoil behind the scenes and a potential rift between him and the show’s creators.
When the show’s writer, Taylor Sheridan approached Costner with the script for one season, the Emmy-award-winning actor “stepped up” for doing three seasons. But, the actor “ended up doing it for five (years).” Costner also added, “There was a moment where that show for me stopped for 14 months… That’s the fact. I could have done a lot of things in that time, but I wasn’t aware that that [hold-up] was going to happen.”
Costner’s reason for exiting the hit series was his dream project, Horizon: An American Saga, a Western epic film series of which the first chapter will be released on 28 June. This film series will be directed by Kevin Costner, who also shares the writing credits with Jon Baird.
Yellowstone, which premiered in 2018, quickly became a cultural phenomenon, drawing millions of viewers and earning critical praise for its compelling storytelling and complex characters. Costner’s portrayal of John Dutton, the rugged patriarch of a powerful ranching family, has been a cornerstone of the series’ success. The actor won a Golden Globe Award in 2023 for his portrayal of John Dutton. As Yellowstone prepares for its upcoming season, the departure of its leading star marks a significant turning point.
