John Cena recently shared an amusing yet uncomfortable experience from his time filming Trainwreck, where he starred alongside Amy Schumer. The professional wrestler-turned-actor revealed that the sex scene with Schumer was one of the most embarrassing moments of his career, describing the ordeal as awkward but ultimately a valuable learning experience.
During an interview with Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, Cena, who played Steven, a gym-obsessed boyfriend in the 2015 romantic comedy, recounted the challenges of filming the intimate scene. He mentioned that it was the first time Cena had done something like that on camera and he was nervous. The scene, which required him to do “crazy stunt sex” in front of the film crew while wearing only a modesty sock, was a departure from his usual roles in action-packed films and wrestling matches.
Despite the initial discomfort, Cena credited Schumer and director Judd Apatow for creating a supportive environment on set. He acknowledged that his co-star, Amy Schumer was great at making him feel at ease. She’s hilarious and made the whole situation a lot more comfortable than it could have been. Cena’s ability to laugh at himself helped him push through the awkwardness, turning the scene into one of the movie’s standout comedic moments.
In addition to discussing the Trainwreck scene, Cena also opened up about a nude Oscars sketch that added to his list of “embarrassing” but memorable experiences. The sketch, which was part of the 2022 Oscars ceremony, required Cena to be nude while performing a comedic bit with a fellow actor.
Cena’s willingness to embrace unconventional roles and push his boundaries has been a hallmark of his career shift from WWE superstar to Hollywood actor. He has steadily built a reputation as a versatile performer willing to take risks, whether in comedies like Trainwreck or action-packed blockbusters like The Suicide Squad and Fast & Furious 9.
