‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’: Camila Mendes and Madelyn Cline Set to Star in the Reboot

The New Adaptation Brings Fresh Faces to the Iconic Horror Franchise

The highly anticipated reboot of the 1997 horror classic I Know What You Did Last Summer is making waves in Hollywood, with the announcement that Camila Mendes and Madelyn Cline will star in the film. This new adaptation aims to revive the cult favourite for a modern audience, blending nostalgia with contemporary horror elements.

Sony Pictures is behind the revival, with the project being helmed by director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, known for her work on the Netflix hit Someone Great and co-writing Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder. She will share the credit for the script with Sam Lansky and Leah McKendrick, promising a fresh take on the beloved horror tale.

Camila Mendes, famous for her role as Veronica Lodge on The CW’s Riverdale, and Madelyn Cline, who stars as Sarah Cameron on Netflix’s Outer Banks, will lead the ensemble cast. Their casting is expected to draw a younger audience while honouring the legacy of the original film, which starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr.

The reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer will follow a group of teenagers bound by a dark secret after a fatal accident. The original film was based on Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel and became a seminal work in the slasher genre, spawning sequels and a dedicated fan base.

The announcement of Mendes and Cline’s involvement has already sparked significant buzz, anticipating the film’s release. The production is set to begin later this year, with a release date decided as 18th July 2025 for now.

As the horror genre continues to enjoy a resurgence, reboots like I Know What You Did Last Summer are poised to capture the imagination of a new generation. With its blend of fresh talent and homage to the original, this adaptation promises to be a standout in the current landscape of horror cinema.
