Carrie Underwood Opens Up About Replacing Katy Perry as ‘American Idol’ Judge

Country Star Shares Thoughts on Joining 'American Idol' as a Judge Amid Katy Perry’s Absence

Carrie Underwood recently spoke about her experience stepping in as a judge on American Idol, filling the shoes of Katy Perry. The country music star, who won the show’s fourth season in 2005, expressed her excitement and gratitude for returning to the American Idol stage, this time as a judge.

Underwood was invited to join the judging panel alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, filling in for Katy Perry, who recently announced that the 22nd season of American Idol would be her last after judging for the show for seven years. Underwood highlighted being honest while judging and giving an unbiased opinion. “I think it’s important to be honest, but it’s also very important to be kind, so hopefully I can marry all of those together and be a good judge.” (Source: MSN)

The singer’s journey from a contestant to a judge showcases the full-circle nature of her career. Reflecting on her own American Idol experience, Underwood said, “Hopefully, when I listen to people come and audition, I can have any lens I need to put on in terms of what music I’m thinking.”

Underwood’s judge appearance comes amid a reshuffle of the judging panel, which has been well-received by fans and contestants alike. Perry, who has been a judge on the show since 2018, took a short break to focus on her Play residency in Las Vegas. Both she and Richie have expressed their confidence in Underwood’s ability to bring valuable insight to the panel.

While Underwood’s stint as a judge on the show has already been significant,  she’s managed to strike a balance between offering constructive feedback and celebrating the contestants’ talent and hard work.

As American Idol continues its latest season, viewers are eager to see how Underwood’s presence will influence the competition and inspire the contestants. Her time on the show is a testament to her enduring connection to the series that launched her career nearly two decades ago.
