BTS Creates History At 2022 Billboard Music Awards

The K-Pop band has now become the music band with the most wins in the Billboard Music Awards' history, with a total of 12 awards.

BTS has officially added more Billboard Music Awards to their collection. The South Korean boy band, which includes RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook, recently took home three awards at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards on May 15. BTS picked up trophies for Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist and Top Selling Song category.

However, it was a big moment for the K-pop group because it marks their third win for Top Duo/Group, noting they have tied the record held by One Direction for most wins in the category. For unversed, the British boy band One Direction took home the award in 2013, 2015 and 2016. Since the “Dynamite” group made their BBMA debut back in 2017, they have bagged nine BBMA awards, excluding the 2022 ceremony.

The K-Pop band have now become the music band with the most wins in the Billboard Music Awards’ history, with a total of 12 awards, a record which was set by Destiny’s Child with 11 wins, 17 years ago. Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams were members of the former band. Recent Billboard trophies come on the heels of another type of win for BTS fans worldwide.

In 2017, BTS became the first K-pop group to be nominated for and win a Billboard Award. The band has won an award every year since then. They won the Top Social Artist award for five years in a row since their first nomination in the category in 2017. They also won the Top Duo/Group award in 2019, 2021, and now 2022. This year, they also repeated their last year’s wins in the Top Song Sales Artist and Top Selling Song categories.

Back in April, BTS shared they will be releasing a new album on June 10. The new project, titled Proof, will be comprised of three separate parts. The first album will feature 19 songs including their previously released smash hits such as “Butter,” “DNA” and “FAKE LOVE.” Meanwhile, the second album will include songs that feature only some of the BTS members at a time. The third and final album will reportedly be a gift for fans with unreleased music and demo versions of their beloved tracks.
