Brooke Shields’ Daughter Found Out About Her Mother’s Sexual Assault After Viewing ‘Pretty Baby’ Documentary

The actress confessed that she failed to get her youngest daughter ready for the sensitive topics in the Hulu documentary, saying, "It was a misunderstanding."

Grier Hammond Henchy, the daughter of Brooke Shields, has recently shared her experience of discovering her mother’s sexual assault while viewing her 2023 documentary, Pretty Baby. “I was going through new experiences as the world around me, and I absorbed it more intensely and on a personal level,” Grier recently disclosed to People magazine during a combined interview with her mother Brooke Shields and her elder sister, Rowan Francis Henchy. “I was completely overwhelmed by it.”

In the Hulu’s two-part documentary, Shields delves into her fifty-year journey as an actress, while also disclosing for the first time that she experienced sexual assault in her early twenties by a prominent figure in Hollywood, who remains unnamed.

Although Rowan knew about her mother’s assault, Shields confessed that she “didn’t get ready” her youngest child for the documentary’s delicate topics.

“The actress clarified, “It was a misunderstanding. I had mentioned that it was a deep dive into the sexualization of women in our field, but I was overly optimistic, assuming that since our situation was stable, positive, and not overly troubled, she would comment, ‘Wow you’ve come through a lot but look where we are today.’”

Shields mentioned to People that she attempted to convey to Grier that there’s a “joyful conclusion,” but her daughter replied, “I will never accept the idea that something negative occurred to you.” “She missed out on the joyful aspect,” the actress noted. “She felt powerless, and as a mother, we make mistakes and sometimes we jump to conclusions.”
