Dr Kate Tomas, spiritual teacher and girlfriend of actor Andrew Garfield, has publicly condemned the “misogynistic” reactions to their relationship. In a recent interview, Tomas highlighted the gender bias and negative commentary that have surfaced since their romance became public, urging for a more respectful and inclusive discourse.
Tomas, known for her work in spiritual guidance and healing, talked about the wave of sexism directed at her. “It’s frustrating that no matter how accomplished or impactful a woman is, it’s always going to be more interesting if they are in a relationship with a man. I don’t want to sit under anybody’s shadow,” she told The Sunday Times.
Since the couple’s relationship became public, Tomas has faced numerous derogatory comments and unfounded criticisms. Many of these reactions have focused on her profession and personal choices, questioning her worthiness as Garfield’s partner. Tomas’s statement sheds light on the pervasive issue of gender bias in public perceptions of celebrity relationships.
Dr Kate Tomas also mentioned in the interview how paps take numerous pictures but shortlist the terrible ones to create some spice in the news. “They [the paparazzi] will take maybe 150 pictures, then they choose the four where you look worst. F*****g hell, nothing could prepare me for having literally thousands of women telling me I’m ugly, I’m unattractive, I’m less than in every conceivable way,” Tomas said.
Andrew Garfield, known for his roles in films such as The Amazing Spider-Man and Hacksaw Ridge, has been dating Tomas for a few months. They both were spotted together for the first time in April this year when the couple went on a double date with comedian Bo Burnham and singer Phoebe Bridgers. Garfield has previously been in a relationship with Alyssa Miller, Rita Ora and Emma Stone. He is currently working on A24’s romance-comedy, We Live in Time, with Florence Plugh.
In addition to addressing misogyny, Tomas and Garfield have continued to focus on their professional and personal lives. Tomas remains dedicated to her spiritual practice, offering guidance and support to her followers, while Garfield continues to take on diverse and challenging roles in Hollywood.
As the conversation around gender equality evolves, the couple’s commitment to advocating for respect and understanding sets a positive example. By speaking out against misogyny and championing equality, Tomas is helping to pave the way for a more just and inclusive society.
