In a surprising turn of events, actress Tamannaah Bhatia was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Guwahati on Thursday. This questioning is part of an ongoing investigation into the ‘HPZ Token’ scam, a digital platform accused of cheating investors by promising high profits through cryptocurrency mining but not delivering on those promises.
The ‘HPZ Token’ platform is accused of tricking many investors by claiming they could earn large profits through cryptocurrency, such as Bitcoin. Investors were promised daily returns of ₹4,000 for an investment of ₹57,000. However, after making one payment, the platform asked for more money without returning what was initially promised.
This scam is part of a larger investigation into money laundering. It started with a report from the Cyber Crime Police Station in Kohima, Nagaland. The case was later handed over to the ED which is now investigating under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Actress Tamannaah Bhatia was questioned because of her connection to an event hosted by ‘HPZ Token’. She had reportedly attended the event and was paid for her appearance which led investigators to look into her involvement.
At this point, sources say there are no serious charges against the actress. However, the investigators are checking if her participation in the event helped the scam gain credibility.
The ED has named 299 entities in their investigation, including 76 controlled by Chinese nationals. The agency has already carried out raids across the country, seizing assets and bank deposits worth ₹455 crore.
