Denzel Washington can now add ministry to his long resume. On Saturday, the Gladiator II star was baptized, receiving a certificate of baptism, as well as a minister’s license, meaning that he can later get ordained. As reported by People, the event was held at the Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ located in New York City’s Harlem.
During the ceremony, which was live-streamed via Facebook, Denzel was seen wearing a grey T-shirt and black sweatpants in a laid-back style. He shared his thoughts on embracing his faith just a few days before turning 70. “In one week I turn 70. It took a while, but I’m here. If God can do this for me, there’s nothing he can’t do for you. The sky literally is the limit”, he said amid all the people present at that moment.
At the event, his wife Pauletta Washington was also present, where the couple thanked each other for the consistent support in each other’s life. Following the ceremony, which involved Denzel being immersed in baptismal water, the actor also posed for photos with his minister license and certificate of baptism. This decision comes a month after Washington opened up about his faith in religion in Hollywood.
In the essay, he writes that talking about your religion in Hollywood is quite a rare thing. Further he mentioned, “When you see me, you see the best I could do with what I’ve been given by my lord and savior. I’m unafraid. I don’t care what anyone thinks”.
Like Denzel, Several notable celebrities of industry have also received their minister license in the past. Some of them are, Cardi B, Dwayne Johnson, Adele, and Tom Hanks. Upcoming on Washington’s work list is Spike Lee’s Apple Original Films ‘Highest 2 Lowest’ ,Black Panther 3, and his involvement in which he accidentally let slip.
