Vikrant Massey, known for his exceptional performances has been receiving all praises for his role in The Sabarmati Report, which recently hit theaters on November 15, 2024. The film, inspired by the true-events surrounding the 2002 Sabarmati Express tragedy has been lauded for its storytelling and strong performances. However, controversy erupted after netizens called Vikrant Massey out for involving politicians in the film’s promotion.
The Sabarmati Report sheds light on the events of February 27, 2002 at Godhra railway station, offering a dramatized account of historical incidents. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the film’s narrative, reacting to a post which recommended must-watch reason on X, “Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it. A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, the facts will always come out!”
Amid the acclaim, Vikrant Massey and his co-star Raashii Khanna met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. Photos of these meetings shared on Reddit sparked a heated debate.
On Reddit, users questioned the necessity of involving politicians in the movie’s promotions. A post captioned, “Is it really necessary to include Politicians to your Film Promotion?” which attracted diverse opinions.
Some users harshly criticized Massey. One wrote, “Bhai kabi kabi lagta hai nepo hi thik hai bina dimaag ke ye toh chaptar nikla outsider image dikha kar.” Another commented, “Agenda kyu bana rhe ho movie ko movie rehne do.”

Disappointment among fans was evident. A former admirer shared, “I was a fan of him since #BBB. No doubt he is a fabulous actor and dancer, but after doing this movie, he just disappointed his soo many fans including me. I’ve unfollowed him on Instagram and other social media platforms.” Another user remarked, “I don’t know, I find Vikrant little fake!”
A few criticized his past actions saying “He mocked Hinduism before 2018 and apologized later for obvious reasons. The person he is and what he pretends to be on screen is very different.”

In contrast, some defended Massey, suggesting the film’s nature required political backing. Comments included, “Jab unke narrative ko push karne k lie movie banaoge toh karna hi padega,” and “It is, if you’re making a propaganda film.”
