Actor Sooraj Pancholi was acquitted by a special court in the Jiah Khan case today. The final hearing was held in a special CBI court today, where Jugde AS Sayyed said, “Due to paucity of evidence, this court can’t hold you (Sooraj Pancholi) guilty, hence acquitted.”
Sooraj Pancholi walked home innocent in the case. He was spotted leaving the court premises with his mother Zarina Wahab.
Sooraj Pancholi’s girlfriend Jiah Khan was found dead at her home in Mumbai on June 3, 2013. A letter was seized from her house, allegedly written by her in which she claimed that Sooraj mentally and physically abused her and she even became pregnant with his child. Sooraj was then arrested by Mumbai police under section 306 (abetment to suicide). His bail plea was initially rejected but was later granted bail after signing a bond of ₹50,000. After multiple petitions from Jiah Khan’s mother, the case was transferred to CBI.
Ten years later, when Sooraj has again been acquitted, Jiah Khan’s mother has accused Mumbai Police and CBI of poor investigation.
