Director Vivek Agnihotri, who promised to expose film critic Anupama Chopra in his tweets, has presented some shocking facts against her in a YouTube video. Vivek, who delivered ‘The Tashkent Files’ in 2019 and asked the uncomfortable question of ‘Who Killed Shastri’, is now ready to tell the horrifying tale from the year 1990.
Vivek Agnihotri’s upcoming film ‘The Kashmir Files’ is a film on genocide and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits that happened more than three decades ago but they never got justice, nor were they able to return to their homes. In an attempt to portray the real events in the truest form, Vivek Agnihotri has made the film ‘The Kashmir Files’. While millions of people are genuinely looking forward to watching it, Vivek Agnihotri feels targeted by the alleged ‘Bollywood Mafia’.
He has called out film critic Anupama Chopra, who owns ‘Film Companion’, an entertainment journalism platform. Vivek had earlier called her out in a tweet that reads, “Dear @anupamachopra, the Shoorpanakha of Bollywood, If you have any guts, sabotage #TheKashmirFiles openly. Pl stop playing dirty tricks from the background. Your only qualification is that you are married to a Producer who despite being a KP, stabbed KPs in their back.”
And now, in a Youtube video, he shares how she has been running propaganda against him. Giving an example of the latest Hindi release ‘Gehraiyaan’ backed by Karan Johar, Vivek Agnihotri said, “The public threw this film in dustbin, but Anupama is leaving no stone unturned to call in a ‘hit’. I thought, Film Companion writes about every film, so I should check what they wrote about ‘The Kashmir Files’, the trailer of which is well-received by the audience.”
In the video, Vivek shared how Anupama Chopra’s company has been promoting Gehraiyaan without a fail. And then, he shared how she made only one tweet on his film and that too was to criticize his work even before the film’s release.
Anupama is married to producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who is a Kashmiri Hindu. Vidhu has made two films on the Kashmir genocide- Mission Kashmir and Shikara. He called Anupama and her husband ‘urban naxals’ and shared how Vidhu Vinod, despite being a Kashmiri Pandit has been betraying his community. He said, “In Mission Kashmir, he justified the terrorists and didn’t say a word about Kashmiri Pandits. In the second film, Shikara, Vidhu said, ’30 years have passed, let’s move on’.”
Vivek added, “Anupama, you promote films like Gehraiyaan, but when it comes to ‘The Kashmir Files’, which shows the plight of ten lakhs Hindus and the incident that still affects the citizens of the nation, you criticize it. You have been doing this because you know that I know you.”
“If someone makes a film on Free Kashmir, Anupama will definitely promote it. I can write it in blood,” he said.
Towards the end of the video, he said, “This is my answer to your dirty tricks. I didn’t want to do this, but you have provoked me. If you have even 1% of sympathy with Kashmiri Pandits, you will review my film, either good or bad.”
Vivek also said, “You and your industry have boycotted an independent filmmaker like me. The Bollywood biggies have purchased the entire media today. This includes Karan Johar, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and 4-5 other big production houses who set the rules for the entire industry. They get to decide who will succeed here and who’ll not! The ones they want not to succeed, they make every attempt to finish him. And let me tell you who’ll succeed here- the ones who bend in front of them, metaphorically, figuratively and practically also. Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has never bowed down in front of them and will never ever do that. But for that, I have to pay a huge price.”
“I am not going to be silenced,” he concluded.
The Kashmir Files features Anupam Kher and Mithun Chakraborty in pivotal roles. It will release in theatres on 11th March.
