Nag Ashwin is enjoying the commercial success of his latest film, Kalki 2898 AD, which has recently surpassed the 1000 crore mark. He initially shared this achievement on his Instagram story but had to delete the post shortly after. In celebrating the film’s success, Ashwin highlighted that Kalki 2898 AD achieved this milestone without relying on “gore and obscenity.”
In the post, the filmmaker wrote, “This milestone…this number…is obviously massive for a young team like ours…but the fact that we achieved it without blood, gore, obscenity, provocative or exploitative content, means so much…a big thank you to the audience and the actors who stood behind us. Indian Cinema #repatikosam (for tomorrow).”
This comment, however, did not sit well with fans of Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who viewed it as a jab at Vanga’s recent hit, Animal, known for its heavy violence. Although both directors have maintained a friendly relationship, Ashwin’s story caused a divide online, leading to a heated debate among fans. Supporters of Vanga interpreted his comment as a dig at Animal and began attacking Ashwin. As a result, the director of Kalki 2898 AD chose to delete the post.
A user wrote, “Seems like #NagAshwin hates #Animal’s success. #SandeepReddyVanga apparently supported #Kalki2898AD before it’s release, so don’t know why Nag made this statement.”
Another wrote, “Such an unnecessary & immature statement by #NagAshwin. First of all, it was not a general statement came out of nowhere. Every word he chose to frame the statement, was used as criticism for #Animal. Was it intentional to put this exactly a day after Kalki crossed Animal in BOC.”
