Deepika Padukone Talks About Playing Role Of A ‘Mother’ In Kalki 2898 AD

During the pre-release event of Kalki 2898 AD, Deepika Padukone opened up about playing the role of a 'mother' in the film.

Deepika Padukone has addressed her role as a mother in Nag Ashwin’s eagerly awaited film, Kalki 2898 AD, alongside Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani. Following her recent portrayals in Brahmastra and Jawan, Deepika continues to excel in maternal roles, reaffirming her role as a mother in Kalki 2898 AD.

At the pre-release event of Kalki 2898 AD in Mumbai, actor Rana Daggubati playfully joked with Deepika about her pregnancy, suggesting she was still in character by pointing at her baby bump. Deepika responded with laughter, quipping, “Yeah, I worked on it for three years so I thought why not carry the baby bump for a few more months.”

For the unversed, this isn’t the first time when Deepika has portrayed a significant motherly role in a film. Previously, she appeared as Ranbir Kapoor’s character’s mother in ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’, the inaugural installment of Ayan Mukerji’s planned trilogy within the Astraverse.

Apart from Brahmastra, in 2023, Deepika Padukone featured alongside Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Jawan’, where she played a significant part as Aishwarya, the wife of Captain Vikram Rathore and mother of Azad. Shah Rukh appeared in dual roles, portraying both Captain Vikram Rathore and his son Azad, while Deepika made a special cameo appearance. Her performance received praise and affection from audiences for its depth and emotive impact.

Deepika will now again play the role of a mother in Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD which will hit the theatres on June 27.
