The Maddock Supernatural Universe captivated audiences with its horror-comedy film ‘Stree’ in 2018. The franchise continued with ‘Stree 2′, which is currently making waves at the box office and is on track to surpass ₹500 crore in Indian collections. Fans are eagerly anticipating what’s next for the series, with speculation that Akshay Kumar might play the villain in ‘Stree 3′. However, recent comments from Abhishek Banerjee have added a new twist to the story.
In a recent interview, Abhishek Banerjee, who plays the character Jana, hinted that his role could evolve into that of a supervillain in ‘Stree 3′. Banerjee, known for his humorous and surprising portrayal of Jana in the sequel, suggested that this new direction for his character could be an exciting development. He expressed enthusiasm for the idea, stating, “I could be a supervillain in ‘Stree 3.’ It would certainly be fun to see Jana as a supervillain.”
Abhishek also mentioned that in the ‘Stree’ universe, his character Jana is now referred to as Sanjay, setting up the possibility of a new, haunting storyline. He hinted that seeing both Jana and Akshay Kumar as villains could add a fresh layer of entertainment to the series. The actor recently showcased his versatility by playing a villain in ‘Vedaa’, which was released on the same day as ‘Stree 2’ on August 15.
In ‘Stree 2′, Akshay Kumar made a cameo as Sarkata’s relative, guiding the main characters played by Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana and Pankaj Tripathi. Akshay’s character gained power by drinking lava in the film’s climax.
While the release date for ‘Stree 3’ has not yet been announced, producer Dinesh Vijan has indicated that the gap between the second and third films will be shorter than the six-year gap between ‘Stree’ and ‘Stree 2.’
Following its success, ‘Stree 2’ has become one of the top-grossing films of 2024, earning over ₹589 crore globally. The sequel, directed by Amar Kaushik, also featured cameos by Tamannaah Bhatia and Varun Dhawan (from ‘Bhediya’), which delighted fans and added to the film’s appeal.
