Willow Smith Addresses Will Smith’s Oscar Slap

Willow Smith opened out to Billboard about the backlash to her father Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards in March, saying, "I see my whole family as being human."

Willow Smith has spoken out about her father Will Smith’s notorious Oscars smack. During a recent interview with Billboard, Willow claimed that the public reaction when Will, 53, smacked Chris Shake onstage at the March awards presentation “didn’t rock me as much as my own internal demons.” “I see my whole family as being human and I love and accept them for all their humanness,” she said.

“Because of the position that we’re in, our humanness sometimes isn’t accepted, and we’re expected to act in a way that isn’t conducive to a healthy human life and isn’t conducive to being honest.” Willow had previously tweeted a mysterious message immediately after her father resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She wrote, “The meaning of life is found in the challenge. Life is a series of reactions.”

The drama at the March awards presentation began when Rock, 57, made fun of Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss (Pinkett Smith, 50, has been open about living with alopecia). “Jada, I love ya. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see ya,” he mocked. Will then stepped onto the platform and smacked Rock across the face, stunning the audience and live watchers across the world. “Oh wow,” remarked Rock as Will returned to his seat.

“Will Smith just smacked the s* out of me.” “Keep my wife’s name out your f**** mouth!” After taking his seat, Will called up to the stage. Later in the evening, Will Smith was named the best actor. Since then, he has expressed regret to Rock and resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which gave him a 10-year suspension from the ceremony. He still has a chance to be nominated for and win a coveted prize.

Will most recently offered Rock another apology last week, uploading a video on all of his social media platforms in which he made a peace offering. He said, “I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk, and when he is he will reach out. So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behaviour was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
