UP Police releases video of protesters shooting at them in anti-CAA protests

The Uttar Pradesh Police has released videos and photos of the violence in Meerut during the protests against Citizenship (Amendment) Act, showing two men firing at policemen. In one of the videos, a masked man in a blue jacket could be seen walking around with a gun.

Video footage has been released by the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police showing a violent mob of anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protesters attacking and firing at the cops in Meerut.

In a series of videos released by the Police, two men can be seen firing straight horizontally during a violent protest in Meerut last Friday (20 December).

A masked man in a blue jacket is easily seen walking around with a gun and firing at cops.

As many as 18 people have been killed so far in the state during clashes between the protesters and security forces. Meerut witnessed the highest death toll of six.

The videos released are an attempt by the state police to bust the allegations that all the deceased were killed in police firing, as it has maintained that they have not fired anything but rubber bullets and plastic pellets. However, the Police has admitted that one protester had died in Bijnor in police gunshot fired in self-defence.

Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh, at a press conference last week, also said that the state police has seized over 500 cartridges of prohibited bores from locations where violence took place.

“As many as 288 policemen were injured in violence that erupted across 21 districts. 62 of them suffered firearm injuries,” he added.
