Thalapathy Vijay, Lokesh Kanagaraj Re-unite For Another Action Thriller

This is actor and director's second collaboration after blockbuster Master (2021).

Following the massive success of Master (2021), actor Thalapathy Vijay, and director Lokesh Kanagaraj are set to re-unite once again for their next outing tentatively titled Thalapathy 67. There were several speculations and rumours about the project and when it will be launched, and on Monday evening makers finally put an end to all the speculations by making an official announcement of the project.

Director Lokesh made an official announcement about the project by sharing a picture with the actor on his Twitter profile recreating the Master pose “Good evening guys! More than happy to join hands with @actorvijay na once again.” The picture showed Lokesh and Vijay bumping their bracelets in the manner of a fist bump.

Sharing more details about the project, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Vijay and director #LokeshKanagaraj reunite for a fresh film project [#Thalapathy67]… Not titled yet… Produced by SS Lalit Kumar and co-produced by Jagadish Palanisamy… Filming has commenced.”

According to some reports, the shooting of the film commenced earlier this month on January 2, and the makers are planning to release the film on Diwali later this year. Some fans are wondering if the film would be a part of Lokesh Cinematic Universe. Lokesh has two films in his shared universe – Kaithi (2019) and Vikram (2022), starring Karthi and Kamal Haasan respectively. Vikram had grossed over Rs 400 crore becoming one of the highest grosser Tamil film ever.

The film also has Anirudh Ravichander on board as music composer. After Kaththi (2014) Master (2021) and Beast (2022), ‘Thalapathy 67’ will be Anirudh Ravichander’s fourth association with Thalapathy Vijay. This is also Anirudh’s third association with director Lokesh Kanagaraj after Master (2021) and Vikram (2022).

‘Thalapathy 67’ will be produced by SS Lalit Kumar of 7 Screen Studio and co-produced by Jagadish Palanisamy. Other technicians on board include DOP Manoj Paramahamsa, editor Philomin Raj and choreographer Dinesh. Other cast members are set to be announced soon. Although there hasn’t been any official confirmation from the makers yet, as per some early reportrs, Sanjay Dutt is going to play one of the baddies in the film.

Thalapathy Vijay’s last film was action drama Varisu, which was a 2023 Pongal release.
