Malayalam superstar and prominent BJP leader, Suresh Gopi, extended a formal apology to a woman journalist on Saturday after he placed his hand on her shoulder twice during a media interaction. Taking to social media, the seasoned politician addressed the incident, emphasizing that he has never engaged in inappropriate behavior in any public or private setting.
He expressed, “Now that the lady journalist has expressed her feelings, I fully accept it. I apologize to her if she felt bad and has been affected in any manner.” Suresh Gopi, who served as a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha until earlier this year, demonstrated his willingness to acknowledge and address the journalist’s discomfort.
The incident led to protests by journalist bodies who deemed Gopi’s behavior as “inappropriate.” They called for an apology in response to the incident. The CPI(M) and its youth wing, as well as veteran Congress legislator Ramesh Chennithala, also weighed in on the matter. Chennithala suggested that it is better to avoid such situations, and now that Gopi has issued an apology, the matter should be considered resolved.
