As per the recent reports stated by India Today, the actor who was convicted in a rape case gained major relief as the Bombay High Court authorized the 10-year renewal of his passport on August 8.

The court’s decision was a result of Shiney Ahuja’s plea, wherein he requested an extension of his passport validity for a longer duration. Ahuja’s lawyer, Karamsingh Rajput, highlighted that renewing the passport for only a year was causing additional challenges for the actor. This is because several countries require Indian passport holders to have at least six months of validity remaining on their passports to enter.

A single bench of justice Amit Borkar noted that Ahuja had diligently adhered to the conditions set during his bail release in 2011. The judge remarked, “It appears that during the pendency of the present appeal, the passport of the applicant has been renewed six times. It is, therefore, unlikely that the applicant carries flight risk.”
