Sharman Joshi Reflects On His Memorable Role In ‘Rang De Basanti’ And Working With Aamir Khan

When asked about his experience working with Aamir Khan, renowned for his perfectionist approach, Sharman shared that he never witnessed the "serious" side of Aamir.

In a recent interview, versatile actor Sharman Joshi shared his fascinating journey of working on the 2006 blockbuster hit, ‘Rang De Basanti.’ Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film was a significant representation of modern India and featured an ensemble cast including Siddharth, R. Madhavan, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Waheeda Rehman, and British actress Alice Patten.

Sharman revealed that he secured his role as Sukhi/Rajguru in ‘Rang De Basanti’ through a standout audition, instantly impressing the team. Speaking on the ‘Timeout With Ankit’ podcast, he expressed his excitement about the character, describing Sukhi as someone who wore his heart on his sleeve and had a unique quirkiness. He also discussed the privilege of working alongside Aamir Khan, emphasizing the exceptional script of the film.

When asked about his experience working with Aamir Khan, renowned for his perfectionist approach, Sharman shared that he never witnessed the “serious” side of Aamir, even after collaborating on two films. They also shared the screen in Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘3 Idiots,’ a beloved comedy-drama. Sharman admired Aamir not only for his work in the industry but also for his amicable and team-oriented personality, describing him as a secure actor who goes with the flow.

Sharman said, “Aamir is pretty instinctive himself. He goes with the flow. Maybe in the earlier days, he was still working on his craft and trying to figure out things, so perhaps, at that time, he was a little more particular about it. He’s a lovely guy. I really admire him for the work that he has done over the years, and also as a person, he’s a wonderful person and a team player, completely. He’s a very secure actor.”

While Sharman has been relatively absent from the silver screen in recent years, he has continued to make a significant impact in the world of OTT platforms. His most recent appearance was in the SonyLIV series ‘Kafas,’ where he showcased his talent alongside actor Mona Singh.
