Team India is currently in Australia gearing up to face the Kangaroos in their first overseas outing amid the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. There’s no doubt that the Men In Blue are in-form to take on the Aussies. But it still remains a challenge to take down the hosts on their home soil. As of now, many are debating over skipper Virat Kohli not being present for the last three Test matches. The 32-year has opted for paternity leave. India coach Ravi Shastri is supportive of Virat Kohli and his decision to opt for paternity leave.
For a while now, there have been many debates on social media about whether Virat Kohli has made the right decision to opt for paternity leave. Many social media users even compared him to the former captain MS Dhoni who wasn’t present during the birth of his daughter Ziva back in 2015 as India was playing the World Cup.
Meanwhile, India coach Ravi Shastri is very supportive of Virat Kohli taking paternity leave. For the unknown, the India skipper is expecting his first child with his wife Anushka Sharma in January 2021. It is the same time when India will face the kangaroos in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy clash.
Virat Kohli has been granted paternity leave by the BCCI. Owing to the same, he will be missing out on three Test matches against the Aussies.
Speaking to ABC Sport, Shastri said, “I think it’s the right decision he’s taking. These moments don’t come time and time again. He has the opportunity, he’s going back, and I think he’ll be happier for that.”
Furthermore, Shastri was all praises for Virat Kohli and how he has led the team to success in the past few years. He said, “So he obviously would be missed. But like I say, in adversity comes opportunity. There are lot of young guys in the side and it’s an opportunity for them.”
India will lock horns with team Australia on November 27 for the first ODI. They will be playing three ODIs against each other. Following it will be the same number of T20Is and then conclude with the four-match Test series.
