Rakesh Roshan Addressed Why Bollywood Movies Are Not Working

Rakesh Roshan shared his thoughts on the present scenario of Bollywood and box office failure

This year back to back films sank at the box office. Bollywood is in a poor state as even big-budget films are drowning. Films are struggling to impress audiences and are being screened at empty theaters. A handful of movies have worked this year post-pandemic while many have failed to attract the audience and make good remuneration. Amidst this, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan shared his thoughts on the present scenario of Bollywood and box office failure.

Rakesh Roshan who is now working on the fourth chapter of Krrish, turned 73 today. He who has seen ups and downs in the industry and changes that have come with the time spoke on the viral social media trend. In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Mr. Roshan shared his thoughts on why films are not working these days. He did not just highlight one reason but many where the makers are going wrong.

Rakesh Roshan said, “That is because people are making films that they and their friends like to watch. They are picking subjects that appeal to a very minuscule section of the audience. A big chunk of the audience cannot relate to it. Another major problem is that the songs are going out of the film. Or the songs are relegated to the background and at times, only the mukhda is played. Earlier, there used to be 6 songs. These songs would help the actors turn into superstars. Aap puraane gaano se hero ko yaad rakhte hai. Whenever you listen to old classics, you remember the heroes who were featured in those songs. Nowadays, since there are no songs, toh hero yaad nahi aate hai. As a result, becoming a superstar is very difficult at present.”

He further added, “You see the songs of Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra, Dev Anand, Sanjeev Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor etc. Their songs used to be such an integral part of the movie and they played a huge role in making their film a super-duper hit. Take Pushpa or RRR for example. Each and every song became a craze. So we should learn (from its success).”

Rakesh Roshan is currently in the prep stage of extending the superhero saga Krrish. He along with his son Hrithik Roshan is working on Krrish 4. The makers are keen to create a visual spectacle in the elongated Krrish universe.
