National Awards Face Backlash For Snubbing Acclaimed Films, User Wrote: ‘Drug Dealing And Flirt Gangster Are Best Actor Nowadays’

The National Film Awards Will Be Formally Presented At A Later Date By The President

At the 69th National Awards, Allu Arjun was honoured with the Best Actor award for his role in the movie “Pushpa: The Rise.” The winners were announced in Delhi on Wednesday, and the list was presented to Union I&B Minister Anurag Thakur. However, social media users are expressing disappointment as several critically acclaimed films from the southern industry were overlooked in various categories, with many not even receiving nominations.

Tamil films like Suriya’s “Jai Bhim,” Dhanush’s “Karnan,” Arya’s “Sarpatta Parambarai,” Simbu’s “Maanaadu,” and Malayalam films like Joju George’s “Nayattu” and Tovino Thomas’s “Minnal Murali” were among those snubbed.

Here Are The Reactions

One user wrote, “Jai Bhim wasn’t included in the National Film Awards. Do you know why? Because no one dares to portray the truth of our casteist society.”

Another user questioned, “With due respect, did #PankajTripathi truly deserve the Best Supporting Actor award for #Mimi over #Manikandan for #JaiBhim?”

A third user commented, “She deserved the Best Actress award more than Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon.”

Yet another user expressed, “These three outstanding films and exceptional performances deserve more recognition. It seems that drug dealing and flirt gangster are now the favored ‘best actors’.”

Not only were Tamil films sidelined, but popular Malayalam films like “Minnal Murali” and “Nayattu” also went without wins. However, “Home” emerged victorious as the Best Malayalam Film at the 69th National Film Awards.

The National Film Awards will be formally presented at a later date by the President.
