The 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 isn’t going well for the Chennai-based franchise. The team is struggling to put forth a brilliant match-winning throughout the tournament. On Monday, when Chennai locked horns with Rajasthan in Abu Dhabi, the latter team won by seven wickets. After winning the toss, MS Dhoni asked the opposition to field first. However, Chennai batsmen struggled and were able to put up a target of 125-5 for Rajasthan to chase. In the post-match presentation, MSD reflects on Chennai’s performance in IPL 2020 by saying that they weren’t really there.

The 39-year old wicket-keeping batsman alongside Ravindra Jadeja put up a partnership of 51 runs for the fifth wicket. Later was run-out while trying to steal a run.

The Chennai bowlers looked in-form as youngster Deepak Chahar dismissed Rajasthan’s best batsmen- Ben Stokes and Sanju Samson. But it was a fiery inning by Jos Buttler that helped Rajasthan secure a win in the game.

Apart from Buttler, Rajasthan skipper Steve Smith also contributed 26-run while remaining not-out.

MSD reflects on Chennai’s performance in IPL 2020 by saying, “That’s one thing you don’t want to do. You don’t want to chop and change a lot.”

He further adds that he wants to give each player a fair chance to prove themselves in the game.

If the player doesn’t perform well then they can switch. MSD placed emphasis on the fact that he doesn’t want insecurities to prevail in the dressing room.

MSD also makes a confession by saying, “Fair enough, this season we weren’t really there. Also, there were few chances to the youngsters.”

He also adds that they didn’t see a spark in the youngsters but he is okay with it. The World Cup-winning captain will now push his experienced players while making space for the young talent.

On the other hand, winning skipper Steve Smith seemed delighted by his team’s performance. He was all praises for Buttler for his inning.

The win has now helped Rajasthan climb up the number 5 position on the IPL Points Table, while Chennai has tumbled down at the bottom.
