Madhur Bhandarkar Feels Boycott Trend Started After Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death

Bollywood filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar feels that the boycott trend happened largely after the demise of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Many Bollywood big films like “Laal Singh Chaddha”, “Raksha Bandhan” and others were majorly affected due to the boycott calls. Not only did the cancel culture affect the films but also their performances at the box office. Addressing the same, Bollywood filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar recently opened up on the matter and stated that the trend started after the demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Madhur Bhandarkar On Boycott Trend

In a conversation with Maniesh Paul in his podcast, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar opened up on the Boycott culture and said, that the Boycott trend has happened many times before. Like in Ganubai Kaithiwadi’s case people watched the film, and it was nice. He added that if the film is nice and the content is good, then people will go and watch the film.

Talking about how the trend started after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, Madhur Bhandarkar said, that he noticed that the boycott trend happened largely after the passing away of Sushant Singh Rajput. He added that ‘may be the industry ignored him’. He further added that Sushant was from a non-film background, and he struggled during his time in the industry. And the anger amidst the public got aggravated after his unfortunate and untimely demise.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Madhur Bhandarkar’s last films were “India Lockdown” and “Babli Bouncer”. India Lockdown was released directly on OTT platform ZEE5. Babli Bouncer on the other hand, was released on Disney+Hotstar. The film starred actress Tamanna Bhatia.
