Joaquin Phoenix Starring ‘Joker 2: Folie à Deux’ Release Date Revealed!

Warner Bros has recently revealed the release date of the highly anticipated movie reportedly starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, Joker 2: Folie à Deux.

Joker 2 release date finally revealed! Two months after unveiling the official title of the highly anticipated sequel, Warner Bros. has announced that Joker 2: Folie à Deux will hit the theatres on October 4, 2024. Joker 2 will star Joaquin Phoenix as the DC villain and will be directed by Todd Phillips after the 2019 debut of Joker, which grossed around $1 billion at the box office.

Phillips wrote the script with Joker co-writer Scott Silver. Phillips took to social media back in June and revealed the title of the new project, Joker: Folie à deux, referencing a medical term for an identical or similar mental condition that affects two or more individuals usually members of the same family.

However, at the end of the first movie, Arthur Fleck aka Joaquin Phoenix, who won the Best Actor award for the role, found himself inside Arkham Asylum before he made a daring escape. While the plot details are kept under tight wraps, it is reported that Joker 2’s story will supposedly heavily involve Arkham Asylum. Moreover, according to multiple reports, Lady Gaga is set to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix. Other details about Gaga’s role in the upcoming movie is still under wraps.

However, it’s speculated that she will star as the Joker’s co-conspirator, Harley Quinn, his psychiatrist at the asylum who becomes his partner in crime. Lady Gaga will be the third actress to portray the Clown Prince of Crime’s notorious first lady. Previously, Margot Robbie plays Harley on the Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey side of the DC Comics Extended Universe, while Kaley Cuoco voices the legendary baddie in HBO Max’s animated series, Harley Quinn.

The Joker sequel would follow Lady Gaga’s amazing performance in 2021’s House of Gucci and her Oscar-nominated role in 2018’s remake of A Star Is Born. However, the original 2019 Joker was never intended to have a sequel, but its critical and commercial success led director Todd Phillips said in August 2019 that he might be interested in making a sequel if Phoenix were interested in returning.

In June, the filmmaker took to his Instagram to share a photo of his lead actor reading the script for the first time. Donning a pinstripe suit the actors thinning hair was combed over to the right and his white beard was groomed into a well-kept, but still bushy, style. Phillips also shared a picture of the script’s cover, red with black lettering, as he revealed the movie’s title for the first time.
