Jailer Beats Mani Ratnam’s PS-1 To Become Highest-Grossing Tamil Film

Rajinikanth starrer Jailer has now overtaken Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan to become the highest grossing Tamil film.

Starring Rajinikanth the film was released in theatres on 10th August and opened up to extremely positive reviews from the audience. As per the latest reports, the film has now overtaken Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan to become the highest grossing Tamil film.

Rajinikanth starrer Jailer had a blockbuster opening at the box office, earning around 72cr worldwide. The film crossed the 300cr mark globally through its first weekend and has now crossed the 500cr mark by its second weekend at the box office.

While as per the latest reports the film has now also overtook Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus “Ponniyin Selvan” to become the highest grossing film in the Tamil film industry. Reportedly, Jailer has crossed the domestic collection of Mani Ratnam’s film PS-1 which is estimated to be 260cr. While Jailer on the other hand, stands on a domestic total of approx. 288cr.

While on the global box office Jailer has now surpassed the 500cr mark and is now aiming at the 550cr mark. Although the film saw a dip on Monday, however it is still performing well at the box off on a steady pace.

Jailer is a Tamil action-comedy film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran. The film will feature South superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role. Apart from him the film will also feature Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Shivarajkumar, Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan and Mirnaa Menon.
