Controversial drama series, “The Idol” has again grabbed the headlines. As per the latest reports, The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp and Black Pink Jennie starrer Idol will not be coming back for a season 2. The reports stated that HBO have axed the second season of the show, here’s why-

HBO Cancels The Weeknd, Lily Depp & Jennie Starrer “Idol”

As per an Entertainment Weekly report, a spokesperson of HBO stated that the second season of the American show, “The Idol” has been cancelled. Talking to the portal the HBO spokesperson said that the show “The Idol” was one of the “most provocative” original programs of HBO and that the company was pleased by the strong response from the audience.

But after much thought and consideration the makers including the producers and creators alongside HBO have finally decided “NOT” to move forward with the second season of the show. The spokesperson further added that HBO is grateful to the creators, cast and crew for their incredible work.

“The Idol” Controversy

For the unversed, The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp, and Blackpink Jennie starrer show, “The Idol” was earlier embroiled in controversies prior to its premiere on 4th June. Reportedly, major changes were being made to the cast, crew and the “creative vision” of the show. Soon after which many reports claimed about clashes and alleged toxicity on set which was then followed by the departure of the director Amy Seimetz.

However, the rumors were denied by HBO in an interview with People stating that the initial approach on the show did not meet the standard of HBO so they decided to change. Meanwhile, despite receiving mixed reviews the show fared well on HBO. The show featured Lily-Rose Depp as a rising star while singer The Weeknd played the role of a modern-day cult leader, Tedros. Blackpink idol Jennie also made her acting debut with the show.
