Grammys 2022 Nominations Out: Check Out For Your Favorite Artist!

Justin Beiber, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, and South Korean boy- band BTS make their entry into this year's nominations among others.

The Recording Academy on Tuesday has revealed nominees for the 64th Annual “Grammy Awards” and has announced that for the first time, there will be ten nominees in each of the general field categories: Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best New Artist with two new categories- Best global Music performance and Best “Musica Urbana” album making their space at the 2022 Grammys. The Grammy Awards, which is said to be the musical equivalent of the Oscars, is presented to artists for their special achievement in the field of the recording industry. The awards were first presented in 1959 when a total of 28 prizes were given although the number of awards has increased as musical genres have emerged. So far, the Gramophone-shaped trophy is adorned by almost 18 Indians for their exceptional contribution to the music industry. Ravi Shankar, in the category of “Best Chamber Music Performance,” was the very first Indian to win the Grammy award for his album “West Meets East”. The legacy has been carried on by many other Indians including Zakir Hussain, A.R Rahman, and Zubin Mehta who’ve all bagged the awards for their stellar performances.

Top nominees for this year include John Batiste, with a solid 11 nods which are closely followed by Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, and H.E.R with 8 each. Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish close their deals with 7 nods for each. His 3 nominations make Jay-Z the most Grammy-nominated artist in history so far. Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Lil Nas X, Lady Gaga, and Tony Benett make their way for the night’s top award, Album Of The Year along with other top nominees. Three Indie Musicians from India, Rohan Solomon, Vineet Singh Hukmani, and Kiara Chettri, had submitted 5 songs for this year’s Grammy nominations but couldn’t make it to the list. Fans of Korean boy band BTS popularly known as “ARMYs” have also displayed disappointment as they receive only one nomination in the category of Best Pop duo/band performer’ for their song “Butter”. The band is predominantly known for smashing records and the last year has been very happening and successful for the band, however, only 1 nomination has left fans with a sense of dejection.

Artists, songwriters, producers, mixers, engineers from all genres and disciplines represent the ‘Voting membership body’ of the Academy, responsible for voting each year’s nominations. The 64th awards will be held on Monday, January 2022, and will be aired on CBS and will also be streámed live on Paramount Plus.
